Carling Cup 1st Round
August 10th 2011 09:16
Carling Cup results from last night (excluding the ties of Bristol City v Swindon Town, Crystal Palace v Crawley Town, Charlton Athletic v Reading and West Ham United v Aldershot that were all called off due to riots).
What a night for shocks, with no fewer than 5 Championship sides knocked out by League Two opposition on their own grounds.
Accrington Stanley 0-2 Scunthorpe United
Barnsley 0-2 Morecambe (Carlton and Ellison strikes secure a fantastic away win for Morecambe, playing a side two divisions above)
Bournemouth 5-0 Dagenham & Redbridge
Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 Gillingham
Burnley 6-3 Burton Albion (Four goals from Rodriguez, including two penalties, help Burnley to a 6-3 victory in a thrilling match at Turf Moor. Despite there being 9 goals, it was goalless until Rodriguez opened the scoring from the spot on 57 minutes. Two goals in the final 5 minutes of normal time brought Burton level from 3-1 down, before extra time produced 3 more goals for the home side and a comfortable route to round two)
Bury 3-1 Coventry City
Cheltenham Town 1-4 Milton Keynes Dons FC
Derby County 2-3 Shrewsbury Town (Championship side Derby knocked out following home defeat by League Two Shrewsbury, with form Ram, Lionel Ainsworth setting up all 3 goals against his former club).
Doncaster Rovers 3-0 Tranmere Rovers
Exeter City 2-0 Yeovil Town
Hartlepool United 1-1 Sheffield United (4-5 on pens))
Hereford United 1-0 Brentford
Hull City 0-2 Macclesfield Town (A brace from Sinclair gave League Two Macclesfield a memorable win over ex-Premier League side, Hull City in the shock of the round)
Ipswich Town 1-2 Northampton Town (Championship side Ipswich allow Northampton of League Two to come from behind to defeat them in Round One)
Leeds United 3-2 Bradford City (one of the few cities remarkably untouched by rioting, Leeds United win a local derby against Bradford City)
Nottingham Forest 3-3 Notts County (4-3 on pens) (Arguably the tie of the round, with a 6-goal derby thriller, culminating in a penalty shoot out late into the evening. Edwards of County gave the visitors the lead on 16 minutes, before a Lewis McGugan free kick 14 minutes later drew the homeside level. Forest took the lead in the second half through a Findley strike on 56 before Craig Westcarr made it 2-2 (76 mins). In to Extra Time and County take the lead on 98 minutes through former bad boy, Lee Hughes, but with seconds left on the clock and a famous away scalp almost in the bag, Forest tie the match with an unstoppable Wes Morgan strike! And in the penalty shoot out, County succumb to a 4-3 defeat, with Lee Hughes missing the vital penalty..)
Oldham Athletic 1-1 Carlisle United(2-4 on pens)
Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Millwall
Portsmouth 0-1 Barnet (League Two's the Bees, defeated Pompey at Fratton Park, through a Mark Hughes strike, sending the Championship side crashing out on their own patch)
Port Vale 2-4 Huddersfield Town
Preston North End 3-2 Crewe Alexandra
Rochdale 3-2 Chesterfield
Rotherham United 1-4 Leicester City (A hatrick from Schlupp give the Foxes a good, strong win away from home against Rotherham)

Less than a minute later and the League Two side were level, with Mansell equalising. A free-kick from Lambert and goals from Richard Chaplow and Jonathan Forte gave the South Coast side a passage into Round Two.)
Southend United 1-1 Leyton Orient(3-4 on pens)
Stevenage Football Club 3-4 Peterborough United
Walsall 0-3 Middlesbrough
