A day after Everton came out and announced a new stadium and move to Kirby from Goodison Park. Liverpool had submitted an official planning application to the Liverpool City Council for their new home ground, situated in Stanley Park.

The new stadium which is believed to cost in the region of 300 million pounds will seat 60,000 people, with the potential of another 18,000 depending on local transport infrastructure.

The new stadium which is being designed by American architects HKS, should be ready to move into in the year 2010. The Architects are also designing the NFL's (National Football League) Dallas Cowboys new stadium.

Ever since Tom Hick's and George Gillett arived at Liverpool, one of their top priorities was to build a new stadium, and quickly asked to review the stadium in terms of design and capacity.

The new stadium which will also recognise the central importance of The Kop, will have a look to generate the atmosphere of Anfield, and will be single tiered with a seating capacity of 18000.

The rake of the stand will be steeper, with the seats closer together, with the acoustics of the roof designed to accentuate the atmosphere during games.

Anfield has been the home ground of Liverpool since they were founded in 1892.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have set up a all English clash with Portsmouth in the Asia trophy by defeating South China 3-1. Norwegian John Arne-Riise scored from a free kick on the 10 minute mark, while Xabi Alonso scored from a penalty 18 minutes later. Daniel Agger sealed the win 16 minutes from full time. Steven Gerrard didn't play due to a groin injury, while Australia's Harry Kewell started the game but was replaced by Jermaine Pennant.

Portsmouth beat Fulham 1-0.

This stadium looks amazing!!!

The design is modern and very state of the art - I heard the acoustics inside the stadium have been designed to accentuate the Kop roar!!!

Amazing! I hope this gets given the green light because a club as big as Liverpool definitely deserves such a world-class stadium.

As well I think the same Charles, Liverpool needs a huge world class stadium to match the likes of Old Trafford and the recently new Emirates stadium. I was never a fan of Everton and Liverpool ground sharing at Stanley Park. With just some hope, the new stadium will hold the same problems as does Anfield for the opposition teams winning.

I do hope also they somehow keep the traditon of the sign 'welcome to Anfield' which has been welcoming players onto the field for many years which is meant to play on the opposition teams mind a bit, what I have heard and on the other hand give the home team luck. As you know the players when leaving the dressing room, and before going up the stairs on to the field they put one hand on to the sign.

These days you need to blend in tradition with the new, and that is where the FA went wrong with the new Wembley, they should have built in the twin towers into the new stadium some how. Don't get me wrong, the new Wembley is great, you can actually see it from Twickenham clearly it is that huge. When i think of Wembley, i think of the twin towers, and I know I am not the only one who does. The FA knocked down a piece of history which we will never see again. It is a pity.

Even with Highbury, the council is remembering the past in some way, they are knocking dowm the north and south stands, keeping the east and west stands which are heritage listed buildings and turning them into apartments. The playing arena is being turned into a park.

It is so good when these teams like Arsenal and Liverpool somehow remember their history, it is so important, that is what made the club.

I would rather stay at Anfield than share a ground with Everton!!!

I don't know how they would keep the "Welcome to Anfield" sign when it's no longer Anfield anymore if they move to the new stadium, but I understand the point you are making.

It would be fantastic if they could retain certain traditions and incorporate them into the new stadium when and if it gets given the green light.

I get what you mean with the new Wembley - the twin towers WERE Wembley. Time will tell whether the new 'arch' will mean the same in say 50 years time.

This is definitely the coolest stadium on earth if it is given the green light!

We may not be able to keep the "Welcome to Anfield", but there's always a chance for "Welcome to Stanley Park".

Just out of curiosity, which team are you supporting, Andrew?

Hardy, I am a Liverpool man through and through, one eyed supporter actually, can be quite biased at times, and I hate it when we lose.

I started following Liverpool when a surfie guy from Sydney started playing with them, yes, my childhood here Mr Craig Johnson.

It was good to tour Anfield, and then go into the LFC museum, and see his surfboard on display there as well as the other memories.

I am now a big fan of our captain courageous Steven Gerrard, in my opinion, I am sorry all you Beckham and Ronaldo supporters, but I think Stevie is the best player in the world right now. Yep! it is a bold statement. There were reports in London a couple of seasons ago Chelsea were prepared to pay 50 million pounds for Gerrard.

The best game I have seen Liverpool play is the Champions League final in 2005 in Istanbul against AC Milan, when we cam back from that unwinable position. That game will remain in my head for years to come.

How uncanny is it that all three writers for Soccer.org.au are Liverpool supporters? *haha*

For anyone that's wondering, I swear that memberships to this site hasn't been screened for Kop fans only!!! *hehe*

that is the way it is, you can't change it, especially when Liverpool has one of the best followings in Australia, if you go the states you will find it is Man U.

i try very much not to be biased in my writing, but it may sneak through.

I am very pleased to know you are one of us, Andrew. Don't worry, 'bias' has strong correlation with the word 'fan', and you might see things that are worse than that. Well as long as we being realistic, a healthy dose of bias shouldn't be a problem yeah? Hehe.

By the way, I am sorry that you two have been doing most of the works recently. I really apologize for that. My work and study commitment keep me very much occupied. But I promise I will come back and post more often when the Premier League kicks off in few weeks to come. Until then, keep up the good work guys!

Dont worry Hardy, when the season kicks off there will be so many blogs and emails to read like usual, football is always a great talking point, especially with us, as Liverpool is set to have their best season since our last premiership in 1990, I am tipping the Reds to take out 3 of the 4 cups. It will be a long season for the club.
