Villas-Boas signs Chelsea deal
June 22nd 2011 14:10
So there we have it. Following the chess-like moves conducted in the last few days, the recently departed Porto boss, Andre Villas-Boas, former understudy to previous Chelsea legend, José Mourinho, has become the 7th Chelsea manager since Roman Abramovich took over at Chelsea in 2002.
He has signed a three-year contract at the west London club.
The new man will become the youngest manager in the Premier League, after Chelsea paid £13.3 million, triggering the escape clause Porto had inserted in to his contract.
Now, it's surely going to heat up the transfer market with a touch of re-shaping to follow. Chelsea need something injected into them, after a drab finish to the 2010-11 season, and rumours of Porto's Colombian striker, Falcao, following him to Chelsea are going to bubble away until a deal is rubber-stamped, or Falcao shuns the media interest.
Either way, Chelsea will now, as far as my opinion is concerned, fall foul of FIFA's rule on expenditure, along with Manchester City.

I like Manchester City to start the season for some reason but see the usual contenders in the fray.
Question? Did United's goalie retire.

Who knows how the season will pan out- the one just gone has been one of the most up and down titles I've ever known. But I hope United sit atop the pile come May 2012!
Yes, Edwin van der Sar did retire at the end of the season, as did our midfielder, the player Zinedine Zidane called the 'finest player of our generation', Paul Scholes. Both will be sadly missed, but I fear Edwin's slot will be the biggest and hardest to fill- Scholes has played fewer and fewer games as he's neared the end, so I fill we've covered enough.

Villas Boas himself said that luck is required to win the Champions League in which case I hope he's lucky otherwise he'll be sacked after 2 seasons.

It's Football, NOT Soccer!
Amazing to think that, in terms of Champions League football Avram Grant (who took two teams down in two seasons) is the most successful Chelsea manager of all time!
